Delighted girls and clear-eyed boys
An Afternoon In A Gambian Village.

I had finished my contract in The Sudan and was on my way home. I decided to stop and visit Trish and John for a few days. We had all worked together in Somalia some years earlier. On this day, Trish needed to make a field visit to a village that was about four hours away by boat and truck so I went along.
.
The people of the village welcomed us and seemed to greatly enjoy having their photos taken; photos they would never see. I had two cameras with me. One had black and white film. The other had film for 35mm color slides. Together they form a yin-yang – as do the photos I’ve chosen for today: girls and boys, children and an elder, work and play, and teachers and students.
