Recently I was honored with the 2018 Lifetime Achievement Award by the Boards of Directors of The Gestalt Center for Organization and Systems Development.

We had a wonderful celebration where I was officially given a certificate and this beautiful goddess statuette. I had wanted to have the photos taken outside in nature. However, we were in the midst of a much needed and delicious spring downpour. No photos in nature that evening. So the next day I took the goddess and my camera to some of my favorite natural places in the city and photographed her in front of them.

What I noticed when I got home and began to explore the shots I’d taken, are some wonderful ways in which she serves as a metaphor for our lives.

First, the blue sky is reflected on the upper part of her body and the brown grass is reflected on the lower part: heaven and earth, yielding and grounding, giving and receiving, yin and yang.

Secondly, she holds a globe of the world up high in one hand with grace and ease.

Third, as with her body, the sky and earth are also reflected in the globe. However, this time the reflection is upside-down with heaven below and earth above.
